Southern Lights Toastmasters Club was chartered in 1979. It was formed with another club, the Northern Lights, had over 40 members, and was too many to be accommodated at the weekly meetings. A decision was made to divide the Northern Lights and the result was the formation of Southern Lights. Two of the original Charter Members remain active in the club, which has met regularly since its establishment 40 years ago.
Southern Lights Toastmasters prides itself on a diverse level of expertise throughout its membership. At any meeting there is a well-balanced blend of novice and experienced members.
The designation Distinguished Toastmaster is granted by Toastmasters International to individuals who have achieved all the requisite communication and leadership goals. Southern Lights is proud to have three Distinguished Toastmasters.
