Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization with the aim to empower people "to achieve their full potential and realize their dreams" by teaching communication and leadership skills, and many other skills, through their member clubs.

No matter who you are, at some point in your life you will be asked to make a speech. So many people shy away from the opportunity to speak because they feel they won't be able to say it well enough.If you let that moment pass by you will never get it back and you will have never expressed how you feel and what you believe.

That is why we have Toastmasters; to build confidence, to discover our speaking style and to learn how to speak in front of an audience. We teach each other about the importance of hand gestures, eye contact and speaking pace. We get advice on speech content, structure and speech flow. And hopefully we practice enough to define a moment when the moment is upon us.

Southern Lights Toastmasters has been running in Edmonton for over 30 years and has many experienced speakers to help mentor new members in their path to self confidence in communication and leadership. We have consistently maintained professional and high quality standards for our club and provide one of the best learning environments for these valuable skills. With our diversified membership and the combination of our level of experience and youthful enthusiasm, we have many new members join every year to add to our dynamic meetings.
