What is Toastmasters?

Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization with the aim to empower people "to achieve their full potential and realize their dreams" by teaching communication and leadership skills, and many other skills, through their member clubs.

Why Toastmasters?

No matter who you are, at some point in your life you will be asked to make a speech. So many people shy away from the opportunity to speak because they feel they won’t be able to say it well enough. If you let that moment pass by you will never get it back and you will have never expressed how you feel and what you believe.

That is why we have Toastmasters; to build confidence, to discover our speaking style and to learn how to speak in front of an audience. We teach each other about the importance of hand gestures, eye contact and speaking pace. We get advice on speech content, structure and speech flow. And hopefully we practice enough to define a moment when the moment is upon us.

Why Southern Lights?
Southern Lights is one of many Toastmasters International clubs. And, here at Southern Lights, we maintain one of the most professional, experienced, weekly Toastmasters meetings within Edmonton and area. This year Southern Lights will be celebrating its' 30th anniversary. This level of experience, youthful spirit, and everything in between has brought an astounding 20+ new members to our club in the last year alone. We encourage and welcome you with outstretched arms to come to one of our meetings and try it out. However, beware as the ensuing sense of freedom and self power can keep you coming back for more.
