What can I expect?

Members of the elected Club Executive develop the program for each weekly meeting. The meeting has four portions as well as a mid-point break and runs on a pre-determined schedule with the total meeting time being two hours. Club members volunteer to participate in the various roles and functions and learn by expressing themselves in these roles. Such roles include chairing the business meeting, providing toasts, and delivering prepared speeches.

To assist in the operation of the meeting, there is a timer, a grammarian, an “ah counter”, a impromptu topic leader, a business meeting chairman, a Master of Ceremonies (Toastmaster of the evening), a joke master, various prepared speakers and their assigned evaluators, plus a general evaluator who gives an overview of the entire meeting. Newer members start with less demanding roles and slowly take on more demanding positions as they gain experience and confidence. Seasoned members are provided as mentors to assist in each new members’ development.

All members begin with a Communication and Leadership Manuals that contains outlines for 10 speech projects. These manuals serve as a guide to develop prepared speeches for presentation to the club.
