Running Effective Meetings

Meetings are often necessary to conduct business or resolve and plan issues within an organization.

Following Parliamentary Procedure is an effective way to run a business meeting. Parliamentary Procedure is based on a series of rules which are followed until the meeting is adjourned.

These rules ensure that all members are given an opportunity to express themselves and have their ideas voted on by the rest of the group. When we conduct our business meetings, we follow Parliamentary Procedures at a Glance by O. Garfield Jones. Members and guests may participate in the business meeting but guests cannot vote on matters of a club bylaw or constitutional nature. After conducting our business meeting, we move into frivolous business, allowing members to practice Parliamentary Procedure on hypothetical topic matters.
